AWG-SWG Wire Gauge Comparison Table

The table below illustrates the relationship between the British Standard Wire Gauge (SWG) and the American Wire Gauge (AWG). While AWG is commonly used in the United States to specify enameled wire, SWG is prevalent in the United Kingdom.

SWG is typically one number larger than AWG. To convert AWG to SWG:

Find the wire number corresponding to AWG in the table and read the corresponding diameter value.
Find the closest diameter value in the SWG column and read the corresponding SWG wire number from the center column.

For example: 20 AWG corresponds to a diameter of 0.032 inches, which corresponds to 21 SWG.
